you awake. you were transported to "the Pass", and lift taken you up "there were many before you, and will be many after you", says text above the doors.. you were given pistol and much blessings. you don't remember much but you know your mission. you have to protect one of few left bastions of humidity, that is very very deep underground. entrance is masked but they can find it any day, so you need to kill them... long long before, this planet was our . now, monster dominated it, they killed everything on surface. now, people in "Hope" (underground city), say that monster's arrived not long after first nuclear fusion-fission-fusion bomb test. nobody know from where they came, but it does not matter. the only one important thing is to kill as much as possible. You know also, that one trooper from other city cleared the land near by it, and then all of people from there fly to moon, to set up the base. Maybe they will help you in some way, by sending supplies from "Heaven"... who knows... onboard computer asked you: "where will you go?" you have few options: Rush field, trying to run to the other bases, but you have to survive some time and run; Survival field, where you will die in honor, bringing death to them; Quest field, where are monsters in sectors which you have to kill to prevent their attack on base; there is also Type'o'Shooter hall, where you control the robot to kill them. deep in the labs, our scientists try to find out sth about enemies, keepin them in alien zoo.
you have chosen. you came out. Now, you turn the music on, and slaughter aliens, zombies, spiders, lizards. ground is covered with blood. all you can see is crimson. you call the place: Crimsonland.

given that if CL2 has a story, it will be a story that might as well not bne, this is as good as any.
seriously, did anyone ever read the backdrop for F-Zero? or tetris? or Space Invaders? CL is in the same boat.
yes, tetris has a backstory. it involves tetrions and tetrinos. wtf?

Everybody knows what tetrions are except people from Washington. God! However, I would like to know, purely out of curiosity, wtf is a fusion-fission-fusion bomb?

You are in a field. You see monsters approaching. Have a pistol.

my story leaves place for cl1, cl on moon, and other relases. that's the point of writting it.
you don't have to like it, but sometimes you want a reason of all this asskicking.
Story helps sometimes. and, nobody said that you have to read the story you can skip it. (adding storyline to cl will not be really hard work i think, so maybe it's worth some time)

Or, it could be like Quake 2. A massive counter-invasion on the hostile alien homeworld that has gone horribly awry, leaving you alone against the masses.
That would explain where the aliens got all the guns that they drop.

yeah, make it a doom-esqu story... but that's really the same as no-story-anyone-cares aobut anyways. we can have a skippable story-scroll at the beginning of the campaign, but please, no mission breifings, cutscenes, narratives, journals, or non-skipapble intros. this is an arcade game. it needs as much story as Smash TV, and less Narration.

i dont see why mnot have mission briefings but if you think so i cant argue

I think breifings would take too much away from the playing. Take too much arcade-ness away, and make it boring. I never liked mission breifings. You'll find out what to do soon enough, anyway.

makes sense. and afterall what are they gonna say. a large monster is en route. destroy it. they would all be the same.

Like Yan said, you don't even have to read the story anyway. if you want a reason for all the asskicking, read it. If you just want to kick some ass, don't read it.

Hey! very good story brings more emotions. you HATE each one of all enemies more if they wasted your girlfriend, eh? you want to see masterpiece story? try front mission on SNES emulator, Cave Story (gr8 & oldskool stylish PC game) and the God-blessed The Spirit Engine. i was moved! i really wished to kick those damn enemies! And, some pieces of text or sayings of game heroes get into your lifes sometimes. It can cause much fun sometimes, and expand the gamer's speak. who would know what splitter jackhammer is without playing CL? or wtf means AZK shortcut? It changes your damn life

Yeah, I agree a good story stirs up emoitions, and could even effect your life. Honestly, I LOVE a good game story.
Remember Half-Life? I loved it not just because it was a fun game, but because you wanted to know "Why?". It kept me going, and eventually, at the end, asked more questions than it answered. THat's why I knew there would be anopther one, and I played the Hell out of it when the second one came out. And the fact that the second one only asks more questions tells me there will be another one.
I just finished "The Indigo Prophecy", and I liked it because there was more story than anything else. The great story made up for the terrible gameplay, and camera angles.
But, if you don'r care how or why, you don't need a story. That's why the story should be skippable. Because some people just don't care.

so have this settled: CL2 needs skipable story. It would boost all in it, it would ask some questions which only way to find answers is to play. and, it may explain given sub-title if there's any (it's just better when like this: Crimsonland 2:Trooper's Revange).

no, i think taht we wouldn't MIND if CL had a skippable story, but we would be furious if it were non-skippable, adn we really wouldn't care if it weren't there... at least that's me.

I think it should be without storyline, or just an introduction. THIS IS CRIMSONLAND
